I have a Super Smartjoy (USB to SNES) and whenever I press "left" on the game pad, my game pauses... If I press it again, it will unpause.. I think I've tried everything in the gamepad config menu. When I press "left" there, it only shows a reaction in the "X-axis".. so why is it pausing my game??

Thanks in advance!

Have you tried to start from scratch in another directory with default settings. Are you sure that left did not accidentally get programmed as "pause"?

ok, I tried it twice. On the first install I tried to reconfigure everything to my liking.. Still same issue.

On the second install, I touched nothing - just went with default settings for everything...

Exact same thing happened both times.. I press left, and the game pauses.. Press it again, and it will unpause. Confused

ok - more information here.. I've now tried other emulators such as ZSNES, MAME, and two others and Magic Engine is the only one with the problem.. Is my game pad strange? Anyone have any ideas?

Well... One month later I have solved my own problem.. So, for anyone else who may be having the same issues, the solution is this:

ME apparently doesn't work very well with resolutions under 1024x768. When I went to the gamepad setup screen while in 800x600 (I have a PC connected to my TV) I couldn't see all of the button settings because they extended past the bottom of the screen. So.. when I was hitting "left" on my control pad, it was triggering X/Y, AS WELL AS the "hidden" button #15 which by default had been set as "Run".

Thanks for the attempted help - I am now a happy user of ME once again. Very Happy

That's strange. I can change my pad settings without any problem whatsoever on a 640x480 screen. In case you didn't notice it, there is a scrollbar on the right of the button settings window.
