Seriously... I hadn't even considered that at all... The only emulator you ever had to pay for was Bleem... I never thought with all the emulators out there you'd have to pay for one for a long dead system..
If I knew that I would have ordered it when I ordered Ys 4... Now I have to wait to play it... *sigh*

Well I ordered it via Credit card.. I really hope it doesn't take 48 hours. I'm dying to play this game.

Hey, look what we've got here... Another theological rant about the so-called 'emulation rule of thumb': any emulator should be free of charge! OMG!

This is an urban legend, pal. Welcome to the real world. You'll find more commercial emus out there than you ever thought existed. Bleem, Magic Engine, fMSX, Anex86, GLiDOS... Some of them are crippled, yes, but most of them are pure shareware (developers foolishly expect you to give them a little something for the hard work they did) and yet people don't care about it or blatantly ignore it.

Oh, yes... The PC Engine is an old system, that's for sure. Just go outside and look at the price that resellers ask you for a SuperGrafx + Super CD-ROM + Arcade Card combo. Now come back and dare complain again.

At least you made the praiseworthy effort to register, despite sighing your heart's content... Look at the whole picture and think about the investment this emulator actually represents (as imperfect as it may be).

And last but not least... welcome on board Wink

But it says I'll have to wait up to 48 hours to hear back...

If I made an emulator I'd want money for it too. Plus Magic Engine is one of the most polished emulators ever created.

Hey, give the guy a break. He wasn't complianing that the emulator should be free. He was just lamenting that since paying is not the norm, he couldn't play his game until the registration went through. There is a big difference. One is "You suck!" the other is "I'm so excited about how cool you are that I want your product NOW!"

sorry for bitching around but I downloaded the demo and in my opinion ME has much to less options to pay for it...
I mean look at all the freeware emus for other systems, like gens for example
ME cant even change the screen size Smile

well what would the purpose of an emu be if u have to pay more for it than the console.... d'oh!

Applause ... Look inside the INI and consult the forum before stating such BS. (Oh... You meant Gens instead of ME, right? Because you *can't* change the resolution in Gens, just in case you don't know.)

Sure, but...

SGX + SCD + ACD = 350$ (at the very least)
Magic Engine = 15$

So what's your point?

Where can I buy CD games for PCE?
How much should I pay for it?
Im intrested in Ys...

>you *can't* change the resolution in Gens

Oh really , I dont know if size and Resolution are something different
but Im absolutely sure that Gens CAN change the size,
Ive got the windows version(dont know if there's a DOS one)
and besides different rendering options you can activate stretch mode and resize the screen by drag n drop with the cursor not with an ini file...
Also thats not the point as there are many other free emus out there that even support Internet play

Concerning the price you're right that Magic Engine seems to be a good deal Silenced

In my opinion, ME is a steal at 15$. This is the best 15$ I ever spent over the net...

My point exactly. You're mixing up windows size and screen resolution.

I don't care about window size that much (though I agree it would be a nice feature), but screen resolution is definitely a must for any emulator that, well, emulates a system with many resolutions like the PC Engine.

Gens does only support *one* fixed resolution (640x480) whereas a real Megadrive has *eight* resolutions available (256x224, 256x240, 320x224, 320x240, 256x448, 256x480, 320x448, 320x480). One of Magic Engine's best features is precisely the support for custom resolutions, which is definitely lacking in Gens - and please don't talk about screen stretching!

Gens 2.11 is still a good emulator. The best Sega CD emulator out there. You have to admit. I am contstantly torn between my shooters on Magic Engine and my FMV games on Gens. What a life I lead!

Huh? Did I say that it was bad? I'm one of its strongest advocates and Stéphane implemented the scanline 25% after I suggested it to him. I'm not putting down Gens, I explain to Matt the differences between Gens and ME as far as reoslutions are concerned.
