Try to play any CD Audio instead of a game in Magic Engine; then post your log file and your settings.

How would I do that?

Pop in an audio CD, select Boot CD, and use any system card. And press Run.

Then when you quit Magic Engine, you should have a log.txt file in your ME directory.

I can't see anything wrong with your setup. The CD is correctly detected. What happens when you try to play a track with the PCE player? No sound either? Does the time counter display something?

Please post your PCE.INI file as well.

Made a discovery - when I use the PCE CD player with a regular audio CD, the CD light goes on, but no audio. Nothing to hear and the L - R equaliser lights on the PC player don't register anything.

I then tried Dracula X again and noticed the same thing - it's reading the CD, 'playing' the music, but no sound is getting to the emu/PC Engine.

Here's my ini file:

Jebus Kriest, you're talking about Magic Engine 0.99 Brick wall

My guess is that you miss the CD-ROM audio cable (common problem with off-the-shelf WinXP systems). You can also try the following suggestions:

1. Make sure you're using a real System Card 3 ROM, not the Magic System.

2. Set the option drive_letter (NOT drive) to the letter of your CD/DVD drive, for example drive_letter=D:

You know when some complete idiot comes onto a forum asking for help, and it turns out he has forgotten something completely obvious?

Seems it's my turn to be the mentalist.

I did indeed have the old version of Magic Engine, which is odd as I had downloaded one of the 1.0 preview releases a while back. No idea what happened, but yep, I was on 0.99.

I haven't really used Magic Engine much since the early days, as after that it convinced me I needed a real PCE. Since then I've used that, and also the PCE emu on the Xbox.

Downloaded the latest version of 1.0, and it works brilliantly, flawlessly, perfectly!

Thanks for all your help, I am indeed an idiot. But a happy idiot as I've just spent the last 30 minutes back in the world of Dracula X, and it is good.

Thanks again.

You know what they used to say in old China: "He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever." I'm glad we could be of some help Smile
