Run one of your CD games for a few seconds, quit ME, look into the log.txt file for the below section:

[SOUND INIT]
init sound timer... OK
init direct sound interface... OK
set cooperative level... OK
create primary buffer... OK
setup primary buffer: freq=44100 channels=2 bits=16... OK
alloc sound buffer... OK
play sound buffer... OK
check sound buffer... OK
scanning sound card... found 1 sound card(s)
checking sound card mixer ("SB Live! Wave Device" v5.0)...
+SPEAKERS: vol = 99 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-WAVEOUT [ 0] vol = 84 [00000000/0000FFFF] (selected as CD input line)
-UNDEFINED [ 1] vol = 96 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-SYNTHESIZER [ 2] vol = 100 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-COMPACTDISC [ 3] vol = 90 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-LINE [ 4] vol = 90 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-MICROPHONE [ 5] vol = 56 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-ANALOG [ 6] vol = 90 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-ANALOG [ 7] vol = 90 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-TELEPHONE [ 8] vol = 90 [00000000/0000FFFF]
-WAVEOUT [ 9]
+WAVEIN:
master audio volume... 100 (99)
fx audio volume... 100 (84)
cd audio volume... 100 (100)

WAVEOUT [x] or COMPACTDISC [x] should appear selected as CD input line. If that's not the case, open the PCE.ini file and look for the below section:

;
; CD-ROM audio input line
; --
; 0 -> first audio input line [default]
; 1 -> second audio input line
; ...
;
; (see the log.txt file to find out what are the line numbers)
;

cd_audio_input_line=0

Replace 0 with the number of your WAVEOUT or COMPACTDISC unit that you saw in your log file.

Also check that your CD volume control is not accidentally turned low in your audio mixer (Windows Sound & Multimedia Properties, Creative Mixer, whatever).

No waveout? Strange.

In your ini file, try replacing the default 0 value by 3 like this:

cd_audio_input_line=3

Prons, try setting it to 0.

This 'no CD audio' problem happens to a few people, but in my own experience, it doesn't seem to be exclusively related to Magic Engine.

First, dig into this post and see if that helps:

http://www.magicengine.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=89

It could be as simple as an audio cable not connected between the drive and the audio card, but Mechanicalanimal said that it was working before his HD formating, so...

Just a guess, but a possible explanation might be that your CD drivers are set to run in digital mode, which ME doesn't support as I recently found out (at least on my W2k system).

Have a look into your Device Manager and check the properties of your CD/DVD drives. If you're running NT/2k/XP, there should be an option called Digital CD Playback. Uncheck it and reboot. That could do the trick...
