I am using me099-english-beta4. Win XP Pro, 512MBDDR, Geforce4 ti4400, and either a Plextor CDRW or a DVDrom to read the CD.

I have the three system card roms in the same directory as the program and all are choosable on the Magic Engine menu.

I put the game in the CDRW and choose card 3 to load it, and hit the RUN button... It then acts like it is reading the CD (light on CD goes on) and the RUN caption on the screen goes away... it (RUN caption) thens returns like it didnt load the game but it wants me to hit RUN again. I have tried using the other two cards also. HELP ME!!

Oh... and my Dracula X worked fine on MagicEngine v0.9(DOS) I just need a newer ME for WinXP.

Thank You.!.

Could that be my CDs? It tells me that on every load I have done...same error.

Hmm... must be the CDs... because I tried Beyond Shadowgate, Ys3, and Cosmic Fantasy 2 and they all work.

It seems more like an ASPI problem. Some games will randomly work for a certain amount of time, some others will quickly get read errors or won't even boot. It happened to me before under 98/ME.

XP doesn't have an ASPI layer by default. Which one did you install (if any)? Under NT/2K/XP, Magic Engine is supposed to work with the built-in SPTI layer, but some people have reported problems about it.

Come to think about it, if your drive is an ATAPI one, your problem may also be related to the transfer mode (DMA or PIO) set in the Device Manager. I found my CD drives to be more reliable in PIO mode than in DMA mode (although they are both supposed to support DMA).
