Whenever I run the MagicEngine FX emulator on my laptop,it always shows me a black screen with the mouse arrow.I try to type any keys, nothing happens. I leave all the configurations on default.I,however, can be flawless to run the MagicEngine emulator.
Does anyone give any suggestions?

OS:win xp; display adapter:16MB-S3 graphics supersavage/ixc1014
the emulator version is 1.01.

Thanks in advance.

Sorry for asking, but are you at least trying to boot a game?

Yes, i did,but the main screen just left black for me,nothing came out.Once I clicked mouse on the screen,(just senseless to do), the emulator did sound the music. So I think it is working, only the emulator cannot show the picutre.
I just want to know whether the emulator only supports the opengl mode 'cause my video apator dosen't run under that mode.
cheers

No, it supports DirectX too, that's the default mode. But the emulator requires a video card that support 'render to texture', may be it's not supported by your card. Otherwise the GUI is displayed correctly?

that's the key point, it just appears the black screen with title after the setup options are done. I cannot see any menu or key on the screen.

the following pics show how exactly it looks like:

after that, the world is in the dark

If the GUI doesn't show up the problem is more serious, try running it in fullscreen in a 16-bit mode, like 640x480x16, also check the log.txt file to see if MagicEngine reports an error.

Hi,gald to see your reply again. I tried all the resolution modes, the same issue remained for me, also checked the log, everything's fine, except for the VIDEO INIT section, it said,

driver... DirectX
No hardware-accelerated Direct3D devices
were found.
device: v0.0.0 (REF)

I just wonder why I can run the pce emulator under the same circumstance rather than the fx emulator. Does that mean the fx emulator needs more strict requirement?

Make sure you installed the latest version of DirectX 9.0c and the latest driver available for your graphic chipset (from the manufacturer, NOT from Microsoft).

Yes, requirement is a bit higher for MEFX, it requires 'render to texture' and also a 8-bit stencil buffer (I had forgot about this one). Like suggested Kaminari you should check your drivers, the Supersavage is not very powerfull but it should have some 3D acceleration, and I think that it meets MEFX requirements.
