First screenshots with translated texts! Dancing

I made a lot of progress those past two weeks, I successfuly hacked the game to display a smaller font and I'm able to rebuild a script with the translated text. Don't hold your breath yet though, there's still a lot of work to do before it can be released but I thought you would like to know that things are progressing well. Very Happy

I'm happy to announce the release of the first version of the PiaCarrot patch! Dancing

You can get it at Romhacking.net.

And for more info on the patch go to Matt's PiaCarrot page.

Enjoy! Very Happy

Very nice and professional translation. Good job guys :)

I wouldn't call Pia Carrot the "best hentai game ever", but like many other Cocktail Soft dating sims (one of my favorites being Custom Mate 3), it's an addictive simulation game in the vein of Tokimemo -- only kinkier... I've spent quite some time on the original PC-98 version which I personally prefer over the FX port, although the voiceover job of the latter is excellent.

Too bad the PC-FX didn't support higher resolutions. Why the heck did NEC drop the 512x224 mode of the PCE? The graphics would have been so much nicer in such a res.

After reading the project page, and wanting an English-translated game so I would have an excuse to buy the full version of the emulator, I'd really like to try this one out. But can anyone tell me where I can pick up a copy of the game? I can't find it anywhere.

It's the same for me. I read about the translation at romhacking, and figured it would be neat to try one of these dating sims. At first I couldn't find the game, but I did manage to find a download in the end, after a pretty intense google session. I was, at first, put off by having to pay for the emulator to play the game, but in the end I just saw it as paying for the game.

And it's really fun, so it was worth it. As for the translation, it flows well, which is unusual for fan-based anime-based translations. Usually, they get too literal, and end up full of cringe-worthy dialogue no person would ever utter in English. This translation, however, avoids most of that, which is really good. I came across plenty of grammatical errors, a lot of instances of missing words, and in one case a repeated word, but nothing that should put you off too much.

As for the hentai aspect, I wasn't too sure about that, as I generally have no interest in animated sexual depictions, but I can say that they are minimal, and as for the explicity of the pictures, you won't see more than breasts and barbie-style genitalia, and it's not really a prominent feature in the game. It's more like it turns explicit when you get the girl in the end, more so than being pornohraphic in nature.

I hope this helps you somehow make your decision.

I agree, Matt did an amazing job at translating the game, specialy considering the huge amount of text. About errors don't hesitate to take a screenshot and post it here, now that all the hacking work is done it's easy to change the scripts. The only place where texts may suffer though is for menu choices, with only one line it was hard to make the translation fits, Matt had to shorten many menus.

Okay, I'll do screens next time I play through. The only menu choice I saw that was messed up, was the replies to Satomis cooking, when you go to taste her food. All three choices are kind of in one. You can kinda guess where one answer starts and the other begins, and then choose the right of the three slots, but it doesn't look good.

Also, some of the jobs are too long, and crash into the name of the day on the work sheet, but really, that doesn't matter, and it's probably better to keep the proper name for the jobs.

Could you post a link for the download? I was looking myself, but I couldn't find it anywhere. I tried to find it for sale, but the only place I saw it was on Ebay for $78, and I doubt it's worth that. So could you please post the link? I'm sure others would like to see it too. I'm also sure Dave wouldn't mind a lot of people buying a key for the emulator like I plan to do when I find the game. Thanks in advance.

Well, I don't know what the policy on that is here, but tell me if it's not allowed and I will remove it. (or just edit it yourself, of course)

[admin: link removed]

That was active as of less than two days ago. If it doesn't work, I'm sure I can upload it somewhere else for you.

I just tried it and it says it's no longer valid. You could probably try Rapidshare. But thanks a lot.

Wow, didn't expect that. Must have been amazing timing on my part. Don't worry, though, I'll upload it somwhere for you. I would have wanted the same done for me. Might take me a bit. It is cd-size, and I have to split it and stuff like that, not to mention upload. Should have it for you by tomorrow at least.
