Well... not quite :p

But Aaron Giles has been working on a Mame driver for Laserdisc-based games. Magic Engine won't probably support LaserActive games any time soon, but this Mame breakthrough is really food for thought. Now all we need is ask Pioneer to build a LaserActive disc dumper for us.

If they can do image like roms for arcade laserdisc emulation(daphne or whatever), then it should be doable for laseractive.

The only problem is whether or not there's enough interest in it to get someone to do the work.

I was just posting questions about possible Laseractive emulation on a SegaCD forum myself. It's good to know that people on this end are interested as well. I bet that getting this to work really wouldn't be that hard if someone just dumped all the BIOSs, and the payoff would be great - there are a lot of unique, impressive, and totally forgotten Laseractive games out there. I'm curious, though, about how you might dump the ROM data for PCE disks. With the SegaCD, we have that program for Mask of Destiny that can supposedly do the job with a flashcart and a rigged controller. Realistically, what are the options for the PC-LD games?

Dumping the data from the LDs is one challenge, another is dumping the dual-streamed video. Several segments of video are interlaced so that there are two videos going on at the same time. This allows seamless choices, and the machine shows one path or the other by displaying the odd or even lines. It'll be a fun challenge to capture both of those in a useful fashion.

Capturing the data file will also be fun, but since the LA has a serial interface it may be possible to force it to read the data sequentially and dump it as it goes...

(note: the above is almost entirely useless speculation, for which I apologize.)
