I download the newly released osx version only to find it won't start/launch properly (my mac: Tibook 867MHz, 1G ram running osx 10.4.9). The log file contained in the "application support" folder as follows:

[GAMEPAD INIT]
scanning gamepad device(s)...
- no gamepad

[SOUND INIT]
Samping rate = 44100
Buffer byte count = 5896
44100 mSampleRate
lpcm mFormatID
8 mBytesPerPacket
1 mFramesPerPacket
8 mBytesPerFrame
2 mChannelsPerFrame
32 mBitsPerChannel

[CDDA INIT]
creating thread... OK

[CD SCAN INIT]
creating thread... OK
loading config : "/Users/kurtkwan/Library/Application Support/MagicEngine/Config/pce.cfg"... file not found
using default config

[BACKUP RAM INIT]
loading backup RAM database index file : "/Users/kurtkwan/Library/Application Support/MagicEngine/Backup RAM/backup.idx"... file not found!

[PSG INIT]
allocating sound buffers(6)... OK
allocating ADPCM sound buffer... OK

[HUCARD]
create dummy rom... OK
initialize a new backup RAM bank

[ERROR]
Initialization error : 222
video memory: 768KB

Please help!! I just ordered and received the key file. It disappointed me very much.

The error happens during GUI initialization, it's possible that MagicEngine doesn't find the arial font. Try this version : magicengine100-pr10-1.dmg and post again the log file, it has a better error detection.

loading font...

that's your problem right there. looks like you have either a corrupted arial font or it is completely missing. look in <hard drive name>/Library/Fonts and see if it is there.

Btw David, I also tried this new build and found that if you double click a rom to load it, then try to hit esc to go to the built-in gui Magic Engine quits instead.

Yes, that's the normal behavior.
There's an option in the pce.ini to change this though, it's the 'esc_key_mode' option.

okay, that works.

kurtkwan: I have a question. when ME refuses to work for you, what does it do? put simply, does it start to load then disappear from your dock?

MagicEngine looks for the arial font at this location :
/Library/Fonts/Arial

check if the file is there and double click on it to see if it can be opened.

The file size on my Mac is 312KB.

Findings:

1. I can't find arial in the "/library/fonts", but only something similar such as Arial Black, Arial Narrow, Arial Rounded Bold, etc. (all of them with an icon showing FFIL)

2. The app respond by simply appearing and then disappearing from the dock.

1) I can send you a copy of my arial font via email later. Send me your email address via private message. just unzip it and then double click the icon. you should get the option to install it.

2) thank you. I now know why I couldn't get ME to work during the beta test when using a certain configuration.

Things seem okay right now. I found the "Arial" in ~/library/fonts and then copied it to /library/fonts, and the app launched normally.

Report stopped here, and I am going try the emu!!

Thanks a lot!!

ME is supposed to display an alert message when there's an error like that but I thought errors wouldn't happen so I didn't implement this feature yet. Razz

Nice!

I will add the user's font path to MagicEngine too.

Funny thing is, I figured that if any errors WOULD happen, they'd do it on my seed build while beta testing. never thought to fiddle with fonts and see what happened.
