There's a used game store not too far from where I live here in Kumamoto, Japan, and it's selling a Japanese Duo system for 10,000 yen, which is currently US$86. Should I nab it? There is also a Duo RX console for 8,000 yen, which is about $68. A deal to steal?

What I really want to know is, do you all think these units are durable enough to get home safely packed in between clothes in a suitcase? That's really the only option I have besides paying expensive Japanese shipping, which I am not crazy about.

If it's in good working order, I would take it. Even if you decide you don't want it, you can sell it for a bit more than that here on ebay if you want. Get it!

I'd grab them both. The consoles are certainly sturdy enough to survive a suitcase. Just make sure you have adequate padding on all sides and that none of the PCE items (i.e. controllers, cables, AC adapter) rub against one another and / or the console.

It might not be necessary, but I would tape the CD lid down, just to be extra careful.

I definitely only have room for one of the systems. After all, I have to get my Saturn back home as well, and there's not a chance I'm leaving it Wink

Isn't the Duo RX supposed to be less durable than the regular Duo? The only thing that's kept me from finally purchasing a system before now is that I keep hearing about systems breaking down. Now that I finally see some systems for prices that don't really scare me, I want to be careful about what I purchase.

People will generally tell you these days that Duo R/RX systems are more durable than regular Duo systems due to the sound problems the regular Duos have been known to have these past couple of years. Though I have never had any problems with my Turbo Duo along with other people, I'd still go for the Duo RX console just incase since it's supposedly more reliable and it's $18 cheaper.

To read more about this, check out www.pcenginefx.com forums and search for "sound problems" "duo" "rx" etc.

You should at least be aware of the potential problems the original model might have, but keep in mind that the discussion on the forum is not based on a truly representative sample of Duos.

As Keranu said, the RX might be the one to grab, if only because it is cheaper.

It's that cheap!? Man, now I know for CERTAIN that ebay is evil!

I mean, jeez! Have any of you ever looked at the prices on Duos there? They're like $400! And that's just the system! That's actually why I bought Magic Engine; it was the only available option!

It's sad when the only sale in town is the devil. I admit that ebay is necessary at times, but I still pity the people who buy some of the stuff there.
