|
|
Hi All,
I'm evaluating ME and so far I'm having problems playing CD games. The cd's are copies from ISOs. I select "Boot CD", the drive shows "error!". Then on the "Super CD-ROM system ver.3" screen I press run and then the "just a moment" message displays, but the game never loads. The drives seem to keep spinning, but the games never start. I can play ROMS just fine.
I also installed the ME demo on my laptop and this copy can play the cd games perfectly. This leads me to believe that it might be some hardware, driver configuration. I don't have any other problems with the drives from any other programs.
Does anybody have any hints or ideas of what I can try to resolve this.
Thanks. |

Hi All,
Just wondering if anybody did anything special to a hardware or Windows setting to get ME to play CDs?
I would appreciate any suggestion you might have.
Thanks

It should just work without much work. Maybe your drive just doesn't like that CDR copy. Try an original pressed game CD or just a pressed audio CD to see if Magic Engine will read anything.
Try to read it with Turborip to see if another program can successfully read it.

It's a text based program, so you'll have to read the readme.txt.
Alternatively, you can try running the image directly using Daemon Tools (or a similar program) to mount it.

Thanks.
I'm at a loss here. I can open and listen to the first audio track on the CDs. An I can play the CDs perfectly from my laptop drive. But I can't from my desktop drives.
I can play the ISO with daemon-tools fine on my desktop.
I wonder if it could be an ASPI issue or something.

AFAIK, ME doesn't use ASPI anymore on XP with the latest version.
It really sounds like your drive is just having problems reading the disc. In your log, it shows you have 2 physical drives... have you tried them both?
If it's any consolation, I just play all turbo games using Daemon-Tools anyway. Modern CD drives tend to spin up to very fast speeds and then spin down during periods of inactivity. This causes loud noise and delays during gameplay. On some drives, it can be avoided with Nero's Drivespeed utility, but it doesn't always work.
Overall, it is just less painful to run directly off of the image. I just think of it as "installing" a game. Besides, I've got to put my >2 terabytes of storage to good use... |

I had a bit different problem, as it was my Laptop's weird USB CD reader that wasn't appearing at all in ME. I had to install an ASPI library and desactivate daemon tools for ME to be able to recognize it.
May this work for you as well, somehow... ;)
David stated he will put back more extensive CD options in the next beta. |
