Hey guys!

I have noticed that all of the CD ROm games end up completely un-synced. Audio comes in a lot earlier then the video/animation cue for it. I am running a fairly decent Laptop (P4, 1ghZ, 256mb RAM, GeForce4 To Go 64MB, 16x CD Rom Drive, Windows XP). So is this an uncurable issue I should just cope with or is there a way to fix the problem? I tried messing with frame delay feature to no success.

All help is greatly appreciated!

Or even better, make the 'frame delay' section of your PCE.INI look like this :

;
; frame delay
; --
; adjust video frame delay (15000-18000 µs)
;
; 16393 -> 61 Hz
; 16667 -> 60 Hz [default]
; 16949 -> 59 Hz
;

frame_delay=16711

As 16711 is the exact NTSC timing...

*credit goes to Kaminari for figuring the exact timing Wink *.

Sadly, setting frame delay to 16711 did not change anything. I checked my "Benchmark CD Audio Sync" game "Exile: The Wicked Phenomenon" and the intro went as before: First sound is on cue (saddler swishing his sword), second is a bit off (swoosh of the mage's cane), third sfx preceeds animation even moreso (the firing of the energy bolt form Magician's hand) and the rest of the sound effects preceeding their visual cues more and more. Is there any other possible solution?

Thank you for all your help so far!

Original games or burnt copies?

You can't rely on ISO files to be perfect, as far as cues are concerned. Some distros are well made, but a good bunch of them are just crap.

Most of the original games work synchronously, but some games display the problems you describe. Exile 2 works OK, if I remember correctly.

Kaminari is right, Exile 2 is fine, I just looked at the intro & it is in synch from beginig to end. If you folow the link up here David puts up an interesting point :

Now about the other kinds of CD audio delay... hmm, those are not easy to fix. I think it's because of CD seek time issues, I noticed that sometimes there was 1-2 second of sound that were cut when playing an audio track (the CD drive started to play audio 1-2 second after the beginning of the track), I don't know why that happens but it's perhaps because of some inertia of the CD drive...

That speaks for itself in my opinion as Exile 2 works flawlessly for me.
