OK, I have a question about Magic Engine & CD audio.

Info:
HP 1.2GHz Celeron
384MB RAM
XP Home (pre-SP1)
ME 0.99.5b
Ys Book I & II through Daemon Tools

The CD audio pause functions only work occasionally. Example:

In Ys I & II, when leaving the first town and going to the second town, the sound plays. When you go back into the first town, the CD audio stops, which is correct.

If you continue to the next town, the CD audio keeps playing, even though it should be muted or turned off at this point.

While I was typing this, something just occurred to me: could I possibly have a bad copy of the game? I've had this problem before a couple of years ago on a totally different computer.

Below is the log.txt file.

Is it a burned copy, or an original PCE CD?

A similar thread has recently been brought on RIGG.

ME supports variable CD volume since the 0.98 release. I too had this problem for a very long time, and I bet most users have it as well.

I accidentally found the bug by discovering that this feature is only triggered via two options set in a specific fashion in the INI file. David is now aware of that and the bug will be fixed in the next release. Meanwhile, check your INI file and set it like this:

;
; CD-ROM audio input line
; --
; 0 -> first audio input line [default]
; 1 -> second audio input line
; ...
;
; (see the log.txt file to find out what are the line numbers)
;

cd_audio_input_line=

[This option MUST be empty for the variable volume to work. Magic Engine should be able to find the right input line all by itself.]

;
; enable debug log file
; --
; y -> enable [default]
; n -> disable
;

debug_log=y

[For the time being, this option MUST be activated for the variable volume to work. It shouldn't be necessary in the next release.]

The other CD options have no influence whatsoever.

This didn't work in my case. I stil suspect I have a bad image; I suppose the only way to find out for sure is find an original CD or download another image.

However...

I tried muting CD audio while the game was running by using the ~ key, but that wouldn't work either.

Kaminari,

Just out of curiosity, what make/model sound card are you using?

EDIT: Never mind, I found out while I was searching through the posts (SB Live!). I'm guessing that David uses an SB Live! as well on his dev machine. I'm also guessing that if I get an SB Live! that some of the problems will go away?

Oh, and update: the audio bug is also evident in Ys III. (RIGG ISO, BTW, so I know it's good)
