I can't find a file to update my magic engine version 0.9.8 to the latest 0.9.9 beta 5 .... please help

You should be able to download the full 0.99b5 demo and copy your key ("pce.key") file into the directory that you unzipped Magic Engine into.

Download Magic Engine v0.99 beta 5 (PC)

And if you have downloaded the newest version of Magic Engine and copied the key file into the directory and it says that it is unregistered, then you have a blacklisted key file.

Not saying your key file is blacklisted or trying to assume it is, but you never know now a days...
